Villamanrique de Tajo preserves a heritage closely linked to its historical past and the presence of the Tagus River. Notable sites include the remains of the Almoravid castle, the Church of Santa María de Albuher, the Palace and weir of Buenamesón—an example of hydraulic engineering from the 16th and 17th centuries—and the Salinas de Carcaballana, testimony to salt-making and thermal activity in the 18th century. All of this is set within a valuable natural environment of riverside woodlands and agricultural plains.
