Moderate About this route
Orusco de Tajuña is a valley village nestled on the hillside of the valley like the rest of the Madrid towns of Tajuña, all of which date back to before the Roman era and are well distributed on the slopes, between the riverbank and the edge of the moor. In Orusco was the connection station between the Arganda Train and the 40 Days Train. In the riverbed, the original bridge of the railway line is well preserved, featuring three semicircular arches with the central opening being larger and a skew arch, built with small stones and stone voussoirs at the edges of the arches. The route departs from Orusco and follows the Greenway to the Ambite station, where there is a bar, recreational area, fountain, and the Tajuña Nature Center. Along the way, one can see the Mill of Arriba Weir, the dam is located on one side of the building that was a fulling mill built in the 18th century. It is also known as Fábrica de Arriba due to the current use of the facilities to make carpets.
In Ambite begins a long ascent along the Cordel de las Merinas, traditionally used by flocks between the Tajuña valley and the Eastern Soriana Royal Cañada. The transhumant path passes by the historic Fountain of the Ark and ends in the cereal plateaus of Olmeda de las Fuentes, entering the Cordel de la Pica, an ancient drover's route that leads to Villar del Olmo. Along the way is La Pica, a monumental holm oak planted in the 18th century and declared a singular tree by the Community of Madrid.
