Sobre Manzanera

<p><strong>Heritage</strong></p>

We travel back several centuries when we admire the gates of the old town wall with their crenellated towers, as if trying to close themselves against the modern age. Watching over these changes stand the keep tower and the remains of the Castle of the Ladrón de Villanova family. The Church of El Salvador, a Baroque building from the 17th century, is another important stop on the town’s heritage route.

Its spa, called El Paraíso (“The Paradise”) after the name of the place where it stands, truly lives up to its name and invites visitors to rest. One can also take a walk through Paraíso Alto or other districts of Manzanera such as Los Olmos, El Paúl, Los Cerezos, Alcotas, and Las Alhambras.

All these small settlements have their own landscapes and unique buildings, inviting the traveler to enjoy complete tranquility.

Within the municipality of Manzanera also stands the Sabina del Desmayo, a singular juniper tree known for its remarkable shape, with branches hanging downward.

<p><strong>Festivities</strong></p>

Manzanera celebrates Carnival, Holy Week, the festivities of San Salvador (August 6–15), El Pilar (October), Santa Catalina (November), and New Year’s Eve.

In the surrounding villages:

  • Alcotas: Saints of the Stone (July).
  • Las Alhambras: Summer festival (August).
  • Los Cerezos: Saint Anthony of Padua (June) and Summer festival (August).
  • Los Olmos: Saint Barbara (June).

<p><strong>Gastronomy</strong></p>

Local products such as Teruel ham and artisan sausages stand out in Manzanera. Restaurants in the area also offer menus featuring black truffle and traditional Aragonese cuisine.
